The Capture the Atlas photo blog has brought together 25 best photographs of the Milky Way of 2022, for the fifth edition of the Milky Way Photographer of the Year contest. As the organization explains, a lot is invisible when looking at the night sky with the “naked eye”. But by using appropriate equipment to look at space, a whole new world is brought to light, not lacking in detail, color and light.
E like contest winning photos they even show landscapes that seem taken from sagas like Star Wars and Star Trek, from our Milky Way. photos have been captured in different parts of the world, in the remote deserts of Xingjan, Atacama and Utah. But also landscapes spread across Tibet, Australia and New Zealand, with no shortage of glaciers, volcanoes, mountains and beaches. However, they all have one thing in common: they have the Milky Way as a backdrop.

All the photographs tell a story about the alignment of elements that inspired the composition made by the photographers.. For example, a lake in Tibet that freezes during the winter, reaching minus 20 degrees at night, where you can hear the ice cracking. Another shows Lake Bonney, Australia, whose reflection in the water shows the brightness of the stars, in an impressive contrast with the sky.
There are 25 impressive photographs, all of which are hard to rate for their quality, color palettes and all of their detail.. Even the petroglyphs drawn by Native Americans in the volcanic area are the protagonists of one of the photos taken in California.
