THE BALL – Olheiro ends 15 years of relationship with the eagles: “A special word for Luís Filipe Vieira” (Benfica)

Jorge Gomes, Benfica scout for 15 years, most of whom covered football in South America and Mexico, announced on social media the end of his connection with the Eagles. “End of cycle” is the title of the publication.

In the long text, the ‘scout’ points out that he has observed “hundreds of players and dozens of teams, in the always complicated attempt to find players with the quality, profile and mentally prepared for a club with the Benfica’s competitive requirements”.

“I hit and failed like everyone else,” he confesses, adding, “I also learned to live with the frustration of having timely nominated athletes who then left for other destinations. , with success.” Remember, in this regard, that some players from the South American market appointed to Benfica ended up heading, for example, to FC Porto.

“I feel that I have fulfilled my duty in the same way that the club has always fully respected the employment contract established between the two parties”, he also wrote, specifying that “scouts do not hire, they only suggest names”.

He leaves “a very special word” and a “thank you” to Luís Filipe Vieira, “for the trust”, with his best wishes for “a long and successful life”.

As for the current managers: “To the current Benfica of Rui Costa, Domingos Soares de Oliveira and Lourenço Pereira Coelho, I wish them as much as I know they wish me, in the hope that I can see their main football team play. in the finals again of European competitions and be in the decision of all other national competitions, extended to training and other modalities. One until forever. Life goes on…”

END OF CYCLE

My collaboration, on an exclusive basis, with Sport Lisboa e Benfica is over.

15 years of collaboration with the scouting service are behind us and tens of thousands of kilometers covered. There have been many countries that I have visited, serving the club. From Ghana, then via Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Holland, Austria, Romania, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador, Mexico and Panama. In South America and Mexico, where I have followed the last 12 years almost exclusively, I have observed hundreds of players and dozens of teams, in the always complicated attempt to find players with the quality, the profile and mentally prepared for a club with the competitive demands of SLBenfica.

I hit and failed like everyone else, I always felt responsible for the indications I gave without any pressure and on each of these signatures I experienced the emotions of the different participations of each of them. I also learned to live with the frustration of having athletes nominated in a timely manner who then moved on to other destinations, successfully.

There were also hundreds of hours sitting in front of a computer and television, always looking for the best that could serve the club. I consider that I have fulfilled my duty in the same way that the club has always fully respected the employment contract established between the two parties.

To all the critics who so often point the finger at club scouts, just tell them they or if they want scouts NOT HIRING, JUST SUGGESTING NAMES, for further analysis of structure and l coach, if so.

A very special word to those who trusted me. Thank you Luis Filipe Vieira, for the trust you have placed in me. May God accompany you and help you in your life that I wish you long and full of success.

At the current Benfica of Rui Costa, Domingos Soares de Oliveira and Lourenço Pereira Coelho, I wish them as much as I know they wish me, in the hope that they can see their main football team playing European finals again and be in the decision to all other national competitions, extended to training and other modalities.

ONE UNTIL FOREVER

Life goes on…
