Officials of the Department of State for Health (SES) receive, this Tuesday and Wednesday (17 and 18) a delegation from the Ministry of Health (MS) to exchange experiences of surveillance actions related to diseases caused by arboviruses.

This morning the visit took place at Conecta SUS, where the MS technicians were able to know the SES information systems as well as the epidemiological picture of dengue, chikungunya and zika. Until tomorrow, there will be a series of visits and meetings focusing on new partnerships.

The Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika coordinator at SES-GO, Murilo do Carmo, underlined the importance of this dialogue with MS. “This proximity between the ministry and the State is fundamental, since many public policies that we adopt come from the federal government. It is a possibility to know what other states are doing, to bring new partnerships, to join efforts to improve the epidemiological scenario,” he stressed.

The Coordinator also noted that inputs and innovations for arbovirus work come from Member States and therefore the management of the Secretariat needs to be tight. And he highlighted the concern over the rise in the number of dengue fever cases. Last year, in the first 18 epidemiological weeks (from early January to May 7), 24,376 dengue cases were confirmed in Goiás. This year, during the same period, SES-GO confirmed 73,652 registrations of the disease, which corresponds to an increase of 300.09%.

Veterinarian Geovane San Miguel, MS, said the purpose of the visit was to bring states and municipalities closer to the federal portfolio. “In these two years of pandemic, there was a natural distance, and now is the time for this exchange of knowledge, to know the realities and the problems related to the arbovirus and to seek solutions together”, he said. -he declares. He also reminded that reducing dengue cases requires working in partnership.

The ministry’s consultant, Luiz Carlos Júnior, was also present at the meeting. The professional stressed that the mission of the visit is to follow the work that the secretariat is developing in the fight against arboviruses and to provide the necessary support for the qualification of actions. “The MS is concerned about the increase in cases of certain diseases, such as dengue fever, and we must approach the States”, he underlined.

Regarding the SES-GO information system, Luiz Carlos said that it is modern and very well designed. “The platform is robust and, in fact, helps a lot with health monitoring, which is its central purpose. With the correct use of technology, we will always be one step ahead in preventing epidemics and saving lives,” he said.

Notice
Apart from the 300% increase in dengue fever cases, reports from the department also reveal that this year there have been 36 deaths from the disease. Another 127 deaths are under investigation.

In 2021, chikungunya had recorded an epidemic in the state, in Bom Jesus de Goiás, and viral circulation in 43 municipalities. This year, the disease is seeing an increasing number of case notifications and confirmations.

SES-GO records reveal that there has been a 181% increase in the number of chikungunya cases in the state this year, compared to the same period last year. In 2021, during the first 18 epidemiological weeks, SES-GO confirmed 548 cases of the disease. This year, so far, 3,303 cases have been confirmed in 52 municipalities. So far, no deaths related to the disease have been recorded.

Although less likely to cause death, chikungunya is considered a serious disease, with a longer period of treatment and manifestation of symptoms.

Flúvia Amorim points out that chikungunya makes people sick longer, which puts pressure on services and on the health system as a whole, which also worries managers.
